Fashion, The Desert, …and IEX Helicopters
We at IEX, like to refer to our company as a “lifestyle brand” rather than a helicopter service. Over the years we’ve had the opportunity to work with numerous renowned names from the lifestyle, design, and fashion industries. While it’s exciting to work with some of the world’s biggest ‘couturiers’, the more memorable ‘gigs’ are often the smaller ones.
With Fashion Week El Paseo being around the corner we decided to share one of our favorite fashion moments from the desert.
A couple years back, we’ve had the opportunity to work with English TV presenter, model, and fashion journalist Louise Roe.
The following is an article originally posted on Front Roe by Louise Roe. – 2016
LR: I recently took a quick desert getaway to Palm Springs, and got the chance to test drive the brand new SUV by Bentley Motors, called the Bentayga. The lovely team treated us to a day of road trips, from sand dunes to the mountains (crazy to see desert and snow in one day!), and even helicopter riding – one of the scariest/coolest things I’ve ever done.
Aircraft used for this trip:
Lets talk cars for a minute – I loved how luxurious the inside was, but how sporty the new design is. We drove through mountain roads, an off-road course, and sand. I don’t proclaim to know a thing about engines and horse power, but show me a gorgous leather interior and my fashion radar starts beeping…
These cars are made by hand, each taking 130 hours to build, and honestly, the attention to detail is akin to haute couture. There’s such a parallel between technology and personal style, which makes me truly appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this design. The stitching on the hide seats is inspired by the quilting on British hunting jackets. And the alignment involved In the interior trim – leather, wood and chrome – is measured and fitted by tenths of a millimeter. That’s Karl Lagerfeld precision!
It was a long day of adventuring all over California, so I kept my look easy with a desert feel to really fit in with my surroundings. My suede moto vest – I’m excited to announce – is from my own line with AS by DF! I created three items in my capsule collection, stay tuned to see more! My snakeskin sandals were cool and comfy enough to add some desert flair while still being functional for the day’s journey (yes I drove the off-road course in heels, of course!). I kept my color palette neutral – rich cognac suede and intricate stitching gave a bit of a 70s nod, which is totally perfect for the desert.
The cherry on top of the day? We had a custom picnic hamper set in the trunk, complete with Champs. Wish we could’ve stayed longer – Palm Springs is one of my all time favorite places to get away from the city for a few days, and I always find the retro architecture and desert oasis feel to be so calming and inspiring. Now, off to Paris fashion week!
